Although I am comfortable and experienced working with a wide range of worldviews and beliefs, I can offer a Christian counseling approach if desired. I recognize there is an interconnectedness between a person's physical, psychological, social and spiritual well being. The Christian counseling approach aims to foster a deeper relationship with God while encouraging clients to live accordance with their own unique faith journey.
We all experience grief and loss. Any significant loss, not just the death of a loved one, can trigger a grief response which may include sadness, anger, denial, and longing. Working through grief and loss in a therapeutic setting can help manage the significant life change a major loss brings. I work with client to reduce distress surrounding the grieving process while helping clients bring clarity and hopefulness to their present and future.
Depressive symptoms can arise as a result of a variety of factors including life changes, medical issues, substance abuse, and brain chemistry imbalances. Depression shows up in a variety of forms depending on ones age. Constant irritability, chronic fatigue and feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness can all be signals of something deeper. Talking through your feelings and identifying supports based on evidence based research can be helpful.
Anxiety is a feeling of fear, dread, and uneasiness. It can cause intense physical reactions, unwavering restlessness and tension, and/or other physically distressing symptoms such as a rapid heartbeat. Anxiety can be a normal reaction to stress, yet when it becomes your experience most of the day most days, seeking mental health support may be beneficial. I can bring personal experience with anxiety as well as evidence based coping strategies to the therapeutic relationship to address these symptoms.
When a dynamic within a relationship is not functioning as it should, it can cause hardship for all involved. Although relationship difficulties ultimately require care and effort from both parties to resolve, therapy can help you identify what is within your control to address, communicate and/or improve.
Even if you have not had a history of mental health challenges, a major life event such a losing your job, becoming a parent, or making a major move can create distress that past coping skills are no longer effective. As a therapist who prefers to work from a strength based focus, we can identify and work to build upon what has or is working for you as you navigate new emotional shifts and challenges related to major life changes. I have experience working with both fathers and mothers as they navigate becoming parents and the transitions that having kids can facilitate in ones' life.
